^^ Salman Khan and his revolutionary new learning system.
- -American's have been criticized for falling behind in Math and Science scores. There is no longer an excuse for anyone with an internet connection to fail at math. Since most libraries offer free internet, the disadvantaged student can go into a library and watch Youtube videos featuring math, science, history, economics and much more.
- - A recent favorite of mine is found at the KhanAcademy.org . This web site is amazing and features tutorial classes that anyone with a monitor and speakers can learn from. The only obstacle is motivation. It seems that those with math skills will be successful more often than not. If someone has the desire to succeed then they can use these videos to learn math and science.
- - I have learned that people shy away from math because they say it is too hard, or possible that some people are good at math and some are not. I used to believe people were just naturally gifted at math but since have changed my mind.
- -I believe it comes down to learning the fundamental basics. These are addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. After these are memorized up to say 10x10 (more are better), then the child can learn how to use these to do more complicated and useful tools. However, if they are not memorized, when the teacher moves on to the next subject, the child is still worrying about the +,-,/,x, step instead of the new concept.
- - I find that most things (math specifically) are just a series of baby steps that must be mastered before becoming more complicated. Like, you can count 5 rows of 5 things 25 times until you add them 5+5+5+5+5, then do that so many times until you realize 5+5+5+5+5 is also 5x5 = 25. Someone I know believes they can only learn from "their" teacher at school. This is a horrible attitude and it should be realized that someone can learn from anything.
That is all for now. Thanks for reading.
